To empower and transform communities by promoting academic excellence through innovative teaching methods, knowledge creation, engagement with the industry and acting as a think tank
Over the past six years, UoM has put in place several research funding/incentive schemes to promote research and to respond to the research and innovation needs of the country. These include pure and applied research, innovation and commercialization, research capacity building, research dissemination, research infrastructure developing, among others.
UoM is also actively engaged in seeking research funding from external organisations such as IOC, AFD, EU, Institute of Research for Sustainable Development (IRD), IORA, ACU, United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS), amongst others.
Research undertaken by UoM academics has gained recognition thereby enhancing the visibility of the University. Some UoM Researchers have been recognized by Clarivate among the world most influential scholars in its “Highly Cited Researchers” list of 2022, for two consecutive years now (https://clarivate.com/highly-cited-researchers/).
Working closely with the Public Sector, UoM Academics and Researches are often called upon to provide expert advice and conduct studies that inform public policy, one recent example being the formulation of the National Employment Policy 2024-2028 approved by Cabinet.
Collaborations with national (public and private sectors) and international partners (Universities and Research Institutions) have facilitated knowledge production and exchange and expanded research horizons, positioning the University of Mauritius as a hub for research excellence.
